Conman who defrauded people over UGX212m remanded

A man has been remanded by a court in Kampala, Uganda, for allegedly defrauding over UGX212m from people promising them jobs in foreign countries.

Evaristo Ayebazibwe reportedly runs an unregistered recruitment company called Miracle Recruitment Services International Limited.

He faces 25 counts of charges, including obtaining money by false pretence and operating a recruitment agency without a license.

The alleged conman was first charged on 6th July 2018, convicted and sentenced to three years in prison by Law Development Centre court.

"The suspect recruited several people, claiming that he could link them to the in charge of a Canadian employment Programme," part of a police statement reads.

Witnesses told the court that Ayebazibwe set standard charges "where Ugandan foreign workers were expected to pay UGX10 million Canada, Qatar UGX4.5m, Dubai UGX5m and Sharjah, United Arab Emirates Ugx5m".

Police say there is a possibility of laying additional charges after the law enforcing body received numerous complaints.
