Singer & politician Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, the Kyadondo East MP, has revealed what will happen if the Constitutional Court doesnt rescind the amendment which aided the extension of Parliament tenure.
Last year in December, majority MPs voted to remove presidential age limit and extend the term of Parliament from five to seven years; meaning the Parliamentary elections will be held in January 2023 -- if the court doesn't repeal this vote.
The Constitutional Court concluded hearing the consolidated presidential age limit petitions on Wednesday after close to two weeks of submissions from the government and petitioners.
The Kyadondo East MP says "if the judiciary doesn’t rise to the occasion", Ugandans will be the "court of last resort".
Mr. Kyagulanyi hopes that "justices will appreciate the historical burden placed on their shoulders right now and put their country first" because Ugandans have been betrayed for a long time by the Executive.
He explains that most people have lost confidence in all state institutions and hopes one day Ugandans will liberate their country.
The singer was among the few opposition MPs who were against the amendment of Article 102b of the Constitution that sought the removal of presidential age limit -- a process that culminated into ‘smuggling’ of the extension of tenure of Parliament.
