Celebrated singer and Kyadondo East MP Bobi Wine has breathed fire after police raided a hotel in Bugiri District and arrested several of his colleagues ahead of the by-election.
Police and military raided a hotel where Bobi Wine was believed to be staying.
The legislator has demanded the "unconditional release" of his 16 colleagues because "they didn't commit any crime".
The arrested include lex Waiswa Mufumbiro (Deputy spokesman DP), Tumuhairwe Denis, Ssenyonjo Sheriff (my personal assistant), Lukwago Ramadhan, Kim XP (the videographer), Tabs Ku Camera, Counsel Ukasha Ssekajja, Ssenyange Joseph, Katongole Julius, Njuba (My driver), Roy Ssemboga (former MAK Guild President), Andrew Natumanya, Sulaiman Kakooza and two other ladies.
He alleges that the raid by security operatives is aimed at "ensuring a smooth ground" for President Museveni who is in the same area to campaign for his party candidate.
"This is very wrong and unfortunate. This is our country! We're in a political contest, not in a military contest. All of us should be left to campaign for our respective candidates so that the people decide for themselves whom to vote," Bobi Wine said on his Facebook platform.
He adds that "The NRM more than anyone else should remember that intimidation of this kind has been used throughout history but it never wins in the end".
