Bebe Cool's 'Freedom' video wins a rare international award

Ugandan musician Bebe Cool has been awarded the accolade for Best International Music Video at the Carolina Music Video Awards (CMVA) for his song Freedom.

The celebrated musician's song 'Freedom' was released in 2017. It was directed by a Ugandan filmmaker Sasha Vybz, who is behind several of his music videos.

It seeks to empower over one million refugees living in camps in Uganda. The video features some South Sudan refugees from Bidi Bidi camp, arguably the most populated refugee settlement in the whole world.

The awards event was held in Charlotte in North Carolina over the weekend.

A percentage of the proceeds went to the Hope Youth Network which "thrives to embody programs that encourage great strides in progress among underserved adolescents and their families".
