A troop of chimpanzees on Sunday kidnapped a 5-month-old baby in Kagadi district in the Western Region of Uganda.
Oliver Kemigisa, a mother of two, said the troop, of about 20 chimpanzees surrounded her children as she prepared dinner.
One of the chimpanzees kidnapped the 5-months-old baby while others plotted to take her other 3-year-old boy.
She says she was alarmed by the loud cries of her children whom she had left playing.
Kemigisa told New Vision that she "became firm" and fought the chimpanzees that wanted to take her second child.
The residents came to her rescued and chased the chimpanzees into the bush -- where they found the unconscious baby hidden in the grass.
Human-wildlife conflicts continue to increase in areas surrounding national parks and game reserves.
