9 bodies burned in a Ugandan school fire identified after DNA tests
Bodies of 9 students who got burned when a school dormitory was set ablaze on Sunday have been identified.
The deceased were identified after carrying out DNA tests to allow families to bury the right bodies.
There were delays in burial because some bodies burned beyond recognition. Authorities had earlier faced with a problem of identifying the bodies.
The government has offered UGX5m to each family to help in the burial arrangements, according to Daily Monitor.
Deadly fire
At least 11 students died when a dormitory at St. Bernard SS Manya in Rakai District was set ablaze by arsonists.
The facility, which houses 58 students, was reportedly first padlocked by arsonists before pelting bottles of fuel through the windows causing a huge fire.
About 30 students injuries and are receiving treatment at a local hospital.
Investigations
Police started investigations on Monday after holding in custody 4 people, including students and a school warden.
It's suspected that the arsonists are former school students who had been expelled and were acting in revenge.
Authorities have called for speedy investigations to identify the arsonists.
