9 arrested in fake gold deal worth over UGX600m

Uganda police are holding 9 people in custody over their involvement in a fake gold deal worth over UGX600m.

They were arrested after police launched a raid at their premises in Kiwafu, Kansanga in Makindye Division.

A police report indicates that authorities recovered "15.5 rolls of brass rods, a fake gold refinery machinery at Gold Soko Africa Limited premises in Kasanga, horse pipes, powder, two pairs of radio communication chargers, motor vehicle, forged trade licenses and stamps among others".

The suspected fake gold dealers were identified as Dorcus Chibasi, Samson Onyango Wesonga a Kenyan national, Godfrey Kadimba, a security guard at Rangers Security Limited. Rajiv Manda Mpoyi a Congolese national, Immaculate Nsimire, Bachigeya Milenge, Hagen Sadik and Mustafah Ahongeze.

The 9 suspects are being detained in Entebbe by the Aviation police team to help in investigations.

The general public has been cautioned and urged to verify gold through laboratory test to avoid being duped
