This group, primarily composed of young mobilizers, goes by the name "Disciples of Odrek Rwabwogo" and is perceived to undermine the presidential aspirations of General Kainerugaba's First Son.
Yesterday, Monday, October 29, the group reached out to Archbishop Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu, Chairman of the Interreligious Council of Uganda, with a request for a collaborative effort to promote a national dialogue regarding the transition of power.
In a strongly-worded letter, they emphasized the potential risks that could arise if the future of Uganda is entrusted to "divisive political factions and speculative movements," indirectly alluding to the First Son's MK Movement.
In the letter, they expressed their concerns as follows: "Your Grace, as young Ugandans, we are apprehensive that our nation may experience instability unless we actively engage in discussions, purposefully converse, and patriotically arrive at a decisive consensus regarding the peaceful transition process. This essential conversation has been disregarded by politicians for their own self-serving interests, leaving the country at the mercy of divisive political factions and speculative movements."
They further stated, "Your Grace, we believe that the Interreligious Council, as a neutral entity, can lead this conversation to its necessary conclusion. We firmly believe that a collaborative dialogue involving social and political institutions in our country, focused on shared interests, is vital for sustaining the stability of our homeland."
The "Disciples of Odrek Rwabwogo" has been in operation since 2021, primarily disseminating Odrek Rwabwogo's messages through social media, even though he has repeatedly denied harboring presidential ambitions.
Additionally, the group openly criticizes individuals they view as hostile to Mr. Rwabwogo.
