Algeria’s ambassador-designate to Uganda presents credentials

The formal ceremony, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, underscored the longstanding and cordial relations between Algeria and Uganda.

John Mulimba extended a warm welcome to Ambassador Amokrane and reaffirmed Uganda’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties.

He highlighted the mutual respect and cooperation between the two countries and expressed Uganda's readiness to explore new avenues of collaboration, particularly in science, technology transfer, and value addition in the coffee trade.

Mulimba noted Uganda's shift from exporting timber to manufacturing furniture, inviting Algerian investors to participate in this sector.

He also emphasised the importance of joint partnerships in certification and standardisation of goods and services, enabling Uganda to benefit from Algeria's cooperation frameworks with European and Arab countries.

Mulimba appreciated Algeria's increased educational scholarships and called for more science-related courses in medicine, engineering, oil, and gas to address Uganda's job market needs.

Ambassador Amokrane conveyed greetings and well-wishes from the President of Algeria and expressed his eagerness for cooperation in both bilateral and multilateral fields.

He highlighted the removal of visa requirements for Algerian diplomats and businesspersons visiting Uganda, and called for enhanced cooperation in oil, gas, and agricultural value chain development to enable both nations to compete globally.

The potential for increased partnership was acknowledged, and both parties pledged to work closely to realize these opportunities for mutual benefit.

Minister Mulimba assured Amokrane of the Ministry’s full support during his tenure and expressed optimism that his appointment would usher in a new chapter of robust and dynamic relations between Algeria and Uganda.

The presentation of the Letters of Credence marks a significant step in fortifying the ties between Algeria and Uganda.
