Video: Husband and son 'happily' eat bitter stew and praise wife's cooking

"The truth is bitter," they say, and after watching this father and son battle bitter stew down their throats instead of disappointing the cook, the saying may be true. When you consider how hard it can be to tell someone their food is not good, some skills are not just for personal use. They are also peace-keeping measures.

In the video captioned "Proof that men don’t want any drama in their life 😂😂😂" the father and son duo is watching football clad in their casual clothes and sports jerseys. They are unaware that in a few seconds, they are going to be teaming up against a dangerously salted stew courtesy of the woman of the house.

The woman, who is also recording, dips a spoon full of salt into the stew and takes it for the husband to taste her "new recipe." A few moments later the salt must register because he slows his chewing and rushes to chase the taste with his canned drink.

The son is treated to the same fate and, just like the father, he takes it quietly before reaching for his popcorn bowl. The two share subtle looks and communicate via body language to get through the entire ordeal.

The husband goes on to advise the wife to add more "meat and sauce". The poor man must have had a brain freeze from the salt.

Luckily, for them, it was a prank and the stew was fine.

It is not good or healthy to "keep the peace" when it comes to certain matters. But good or healthy is not always wise so take our advice with a grain of salt when talking to your woman about her cooking.

Most of the time keeping the peace comes not knowing how to give feedback.

For example, you may want to say "This food sucks" or make a disgusted face in the heat of the moment. While that is a pure reflex, it will not be well-received.

So if you are going to criticise, do it gently and in a positive manner. They will understand what you mean but will be open to change.

Here's an example

I really love this dish when you use a little less salt, the flavour of the vegetables and the spices come through.

You can also take the initiative to cook once in a while or prepare meals together.

Be specific when giving feedback instead of criticising their whole cooking as a skill.
