The Mutesasiras head to Uganda days after mother's arrest joke for her sexuality

Esther and Ezekiel Mutesasira are air bound for Uganda. The duo posted their set-off pictures saying "On our way see you soon Kampala." They are joined by their youngest sibling, Elizabeth. Their visit comes a few days after their mother Julie Jean Birungi made a video hinting at Uganda's Anti-Homosexuality laws.

It was with smiles and various cargo that the young ones waited at an airport taking pictures and looking forward to their flight and destination. However, it is not clear whether their mother will be joining them for the travel.

Jean-Birungi has not been back in the country since she left for Canada in 2017 to start a life with her current wife only identified as Jean. It was three years later, in 2020, that she reunited with her three children.

The four have been living in Canada as a family including Jean's children.

A few days ago, Jean-Birungi posted a video captioned "The Uganda Police after I land at EBB land" including the LGBTQIA+ flag. The video is a joke taking a jab at the way she could be treated after landing in the country due to her sexual orientation.

Comedienne Anne Kansiime commented on the video saying, "๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐ŸคฃJangu otulabeko totya."

To which Jean-Birungi replied, "@kansiime256_ ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚my dear Sibyangu but I will come."

Uganda's current Anti-Homosexuality Law has stringent consequences for LGBTQAI+-identifying individuals. It is said to be the first law to criminalise merely identifying as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or queer.

City Pastor Steven Mutesasira, the father of the three children is now remarried to Judith Nyamuhange.
