Below are the top three songs that were embraced on social media, especially TikTok.
1. Practical
Practical is off Eddy Kenzo's 2023 album titled Blessings. The video of the song, which was shot by Scenery Production House, was released this month. It’s a sweet song for playing when you just want to enjoy music while sipping on a beer, cruising on a highway, or just at home chilling. Its lyrics are in Luganda, Runyankore, and English. It was produced by Mr. Miyagi.
When Kenzo announced a challenge where he promised to pay a winner, the song went viral. TikTok challenges have racked up millions of views.
2. Forever
Forever was released on December 22 but it took off in January 2024 after TikTokers jumped on the challenges of the song.
There's a verse by Ray G that has got everyone singing, including those who had never spoken a Runyankore word.
The song, which was produced by Bruno, is sung by Megatone and Ray G.
Its video, shot by Kelon FX, now counts 187k views on YouTube in just one month.
It has helped Megatone who had never uploaded a video that went beyond 5k views.
3. Njalwala
Easily the best video released so far this month. Multiple scenes. Most of them are relevant. The graphics have cinematic appeal though some scenes would have done better with colour grading.
Njalwala, which was produced by Jacob Beats, became a TikTok sensation after someone used AI to sing it with Alien Skin's voice. The song's video was filmed by Edrine Paul.
The other songs that farmed some attention are Chekecha (the acoustic version), Enafuya (Zafaran & T Paul), and Mpaka Kuwulila Bubi (Gravity Omutujju & Mudra Viral), which is starting to pick up.
