Why Uganda is currently 128 places behind on the prosperity ranking 2023

Uganda is currently ranking 129 out of 167 countries included on the prosperity index. The country has moved up by five places in 12 years. Its "Living Conditions" performed the worst while "Enterprise Conditions" performed the best.

The Legatum Centre for National Prosperity which ranks countries in the Prosperity Index says, "Uganda performs most strongly in Enterprise Conditions and Investment Environment but is weakest in Living Conditions. The biggest improvement compared to a decade ago came in Economic Quality."

The organisation, which is dedicated to advancing the understanding of what drives success in nations and providing practical insights to policymakers, organizations and communities around the world to build their own pathways to prosperity, defines prosperity as an inclusive society, with a strong social contract that protects the fundamental liberties and security of every individual.

  11. People take care of their physical and mental health and have access to effective healthcare.
  12. Learning is valued and everyone receives a high-quality education, so they can reach their potential.
  13. The natural environment is stewarded wisely, as a legacy for present and future generations.
