He is credited for his role in establishing FINCA Uganda in 1992. Along with the late Sam Kigwana and the late Rupert Scofield, the trio set up the first women’s financial inclusion groups called Kimanto Twegaite and Wakitaka Biribawa, gave them financial education, training and after that gave them their first loans. This was the birth of village banking which is now well-known today in Uganda. This played a pioneering role in the area of micro-credit and SACCOs in the country.

Since then, FINCA Uganda has now existed for over 33 years, with 30 branches across the country offering financial education, training, and financial access to customers at the bottom of the pyramid. FINCA has also been able to expand to countries neighboring Uganda, in the Great Lakes region of Africa.

In his acceptance remarks, Honorable Migereko dedicated the accolade to the late Rupert Scofield whose vision has impacted and shaped micro-finance globally.

He was a great man. A purposefully driven gentleman with a great vision. He was determined to fight poverty globally. This is a vision we still uphold” he said.

The Business Trend Setter Awards are an annual event that seeks to recognize transformers both in the private and public sectors.

This year’s trend setters forum was held under the theme “Artificial Intelligence, Your Mind, and Your Business.”

Also, key figures like veteran journalist Bart Kakooza, Asharaf Ssemwogerere, and others were recognized for their contributions in the different sectors.
