"Please plan your journey in advance as we anticipate traffic congestion around Namugongo," Onyango stated. "We apologise for any inconvenience caused by these diversions."

The Uganda Martyrs were a group of 23 Anglican and 22 Catholic converts to Christianity in the historical kingdom of Buganda, now part of modern-day Uganda.

They were executed between January 31, 1885, and January 27, 1887, by orders of Mwanga II, the Kabaka (King) of Buganda.

Uganda Martyrs Day is celebrated annually in Namugongo, Kampala. The full-day event is preceded by people walking from various parts of Uganda and other countries to participate in the commemoration.
