The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) General Muhoozi Kainerugaba announced the appointment of new leaders for two key Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) institutions.
Brigadier General Alex Opolot Olupot has been appointed as the new Commandant of the National Defence College Uganda (NDC-U) in Jinja.

Olupot, previously the Joint Staff Training and Doctrine, takes over from Major General Francis Okello, who will retire later this year. Okello was the founding Commandant of the college, which was established in 2022 to provide advanced military education and strategic training.
In a separate move, Brigadier General Micheal Kabango, the Chief of Staff Land Forces, has been appointed as the new Commandant of the Senior Command and Staff College (SCSC) in Kimaka, Jinja.

Kabango succeeds Major General George Igumba, who is also due to retire in the coming months. The retiring generals, Major Generals Okello and Igumba, have each had distinguished careers spanning over four decades.
They have held various command and staff positions within the military and have been exemplary in their professional military education.

Col Chris Magezi, the Acting Director of Defence Public Information, praised the retiring officers for their service and wished them well in their upcoming retirements.
He also congratulated Brigadier Generals Olupot and Kabango on their well-deserved appointments, expressing confidence in their ability to elevate the UPDF’s elite training colleges.
"The UPDF fraternity congratulates Brigadier Generals Alex Opolot Olupot and Micheal Kabango. We are confident they will take these institutions to the next level," said Col Magezi in a statement shared on social media.
