Eddy Yawe expressed surprise at his nephew, James Churchill Ssentamu, winning the Makerere University Guild Presidency.

In a TikTok clip from an interview with Ibrah K Mukasa, Yawe admitted he didn’t expect the victory, and he was shocked when his daughter called him with the news.

The video didn’t provide details on why Yawe was caught off guard, but it’s worth noting that Ssentamu ran as an independent candidate after failing to secure the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket.

Recently, James Churchill Ssentamu made headlines after a photo of him with President Yoweri Museveni went viral, leading his father to demand an apology and reconsideration of his position as guild president.

The Inspector General of Police, Abas Byakagaba, has appointed Commissioner of Police (CP) James Kusemererwa as the new head of the Land Protection Police Unit, with Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Musani Sabila taking on the role of his deputy.

Churchill, however, dismissed these calls in a press conference, calling them "lies" spread by "opportunists."

Critics accused him of betraying his family’s political affiliations, given that his father, Fred Nyanzi Ssentamu, is the elder brother of NUP president, Robert Kyagulanyi.

In response, Churchill explained that he couldn’t follow his father's advice, noting the difference in their roles. "My father has an independent role as the national mobiliser for NUP, but as guild president, my duties don’t align with his," he said.

He also clarified that posing with the president was part of his duties as guild president, and should not be seen as an act of betrayal.

Yawe appeared to support Churchill’s stance, saying that the family would always provide guidance, but ultimately, the decision was his.
