FDC Najjanakumbi President Patrick Amuriat Oboi is facing backlash for claiming the recent spat between UPDF generals Muhoozi Kainerugaba and Peter Elweru is fueled by tribalism.
Amuriat took to social media last night to accuse the NRM government of targeting and harassing senior UPDF officials from the Teso subregion – where he hails from.
He claimed the scathing attack on Gen Elweru by his boss the Chief of Defence Forces, Muhoozi, was just another example of such harassment.
Another incident
Amuriat cited an earlier highly publicised attack by the late Gen Elly Tumwiine on Lt Gen Charles Angina, another Itesot.
“First it was late Gen.Tumwine vs Gen Angina, now Muhoozi vs Elwelu. The (UPDF is) looking like President Museveni's family concern, targeting Iteso army officers," he claimed.

What Muhoozi’s posted
On Thursday in a flurry of bizarre posts on X, Muhoozi criticised the former Deputy CDF, Elwelu, referring to him as a "fool" and threatening to have him arrested
"Elwelu is a buffoon! He is completely unworthy of our great Army! He better run as fast as his small legs can carry him," Gen. Kainerugaba, who also serves as the Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Operations, wrote on X on Thursday, 19 December.
Lt. Gen. Elwelu is currently serving as a Special Presidential Advisor on the Teso and Karamoja sub-regions.
Tumwiine Vs Angina
)
The clash between the Late Gen Tumwiine and Lt Gen Angina took place in September 2020 when the former intervened in a land matter in which the latter was involved, in Muyenga.
Tumwiine in the gripping incident caught on video, confronted Angina, accusing him of using his army rank to pursue his personal gains in a land wrangle.
Tumwiine charged at Angina in a spectacular show of power, telling him off; “Don’t abuse our forces, have you heard? Don’t abuse our forces."
Angina, fully dressed in his army uniform responded, “Yes sir.”
“We all have wrangles, we all have disagreements, we don’t use the forces like that.”
Amuriat accused of stretching
While some social media used bought Mr Amuriat’s argument, many others saw the tribalism factor as a stretch.
“Everyone defends their crook!! Tribalism,” responded cartoonist Jimmy Spire Ssentongo
Another user Ivan Abiyo wrote, “This analogy is too quick and petty from a National figure like you. It is only MPs who can pull this card to win votes in their constituencies. Go for the bigger things.”
Frank Bwambale wrote, “We all have our ways of interpreting things but honestly Amuriat, tribalising oppression makes you too basic! This is not about Iteso army officers, it’s about Ugandans!”
