Alice Kaboyo, the Minister for Luwero Triangle and Rwenzori Region, has announced her bid to become the Member of Parliament for Older Persons in the Central Region for the 2026–2031 term.
She is set to compete against Busingye Peninah Kabingani, the current holder of the seat, though Busingye has not yet confirmed if she will seek re-election.
Kaboyo, a former presidential aide, previously ran for a women’s constituency MP seat but was unsuccessful. Both she and Busingye are members of the National Resistance Movement (NRM).
Busingye, popularly known as Mama Kisanja, lives in Kira Municipality, Wakiso District.

In the last election, Busingye secured the Central Region Elderly MP seat with 113 votes, defeating her closest rival, Halima Namakula, in a vote by the elders’ electoral college, which includes delegates from 27 districts in the Central Region.
A farmer and retired civil servant, Busingye worked with East African Railways, which later became Uganda Railways after the collapse of the first East African Community. She has been active in political mobilisation for nearly 58 years and serves as the treasurer of the Wakiso District Elderly League.
In 2020, Parliament introduced five parliamentary seats for elderly persons, including one reserved for women. These seats represent the Central, Eastern, Northern, and Western regions, with MPs elected by the Elders’ Council of each region’s districts.
The National Female MP for the elderly is chosen by the National Elders’ Council, which includes delegates from all regions.
