Before joining radio, he had been deejaying in clubs. However, after three years at Sanyu FM, CBS FM was launched on June 22, 1996, and its former manager Peter Sematimba offered him a job. The station is owned by Buganda Kingdom.
Sematimba had formerly worked at Capital FM and also owned a music studio called Dungeon that was popular among musicians. When CBS was launched, his company called Semat Production was hired to oversee programming, production, marketing and news.
Sematimba also co-presented a morning show on the radio.
Rasta Rob hosted a show called Super Show at 7pm, and he says it was while at CBS that he blew up.
He quit three years later to relocate to the U.K. after DJ Will, who had taught him how to deejay while in Kampala, invited him to start playing at his club in London.
Peter Sematimba also left CBS in 2000 to start Super FM, which Rast Rob would work on return to Uganda in 2008.
He left the station in 2016 after falling out with management and announced his departure live on air.
Meanwhile, it's while at CBS that Rasta Rob, real name Robert Ogwal, released his first single Kiri Kiri Mabero, a collabo with Moses Kays. It was recorded from Sematimba's Dungeon Studio for free.
"He had a huge influence on my life," said Rob in an interview.
Rasta Rob, who deejayed and worked as a radio host, grew up in Nakasero and Kololo in Kampala.
He went to King's College Budo, Kololo High School and studied broadcast journalism after relocating to the U.K. at De Montfort University.
