In a recent interview with media personality Ruth Kalibbala Bwanika, Nakayi said that her mother used to listen to Kafeero's songs.
So, she also ended up loving the songs and developed a crush on the singer.
"I remember telling my mum, you know, I will get married to Paul Kafeero. I used to love him. I don't know why; maybe it's because my mother used to listen to her music a lot," Sarah Nakayi said in the interview.
She said that eventually, her mother took her to see Kafeero.
With time, Nakayi's sister also joined the music industry and it provided more opportunities to see him.
While still a student, Sarah Nakayi fell in love with Mesach Semakula.
When they got married, Kafeero, who was friends with Semakula started visiting them.
Semakula, whom Nakayi calls Papa, knew about his wife's long-held crush on his buddy, so he let the cat out of the bag.
Of course, it was too late to reverse things!
Nakayi said Paul Kafeero used to call her his sister.
He would occasionally visit them and she would prepare meals that he enjoyed.
Born Paul Job Kafeero on July 12, 1970, the celebrated Ugandan Afro-folk singer died on May 17, 2007.
Most of his songs continue to resonate with generations after him.
Mesach Semakula and Sarah Nakayi have been married for about two decades. In 2022, he said for about 15 years many of his fans didn't who his wife was. She started getting known when she started managing their hospitality facility called Papa's Spot.
