Chameleone became a regional star when he released Mama Mia, which was produced in Kenya.

Its success inspired his return to Kampala. His shift to Nairobi had been inspired by Bebe Cool who had left in 1997.

While Jose Chameleone is now considered musically more successful than Bebe Cool, at some point Chameleone drew inspiration from Bebe Cool.

Bobi Wine made major inroads a little later.

He wrote: "Sending warm birthday greetings to my brother Jose Chameleone.

"Thank you for your monumental contribution to the Ugandan music industry. Your talent and passion is and will be an inspiration for many generations to come. Big up and live up.

"Happy birthday."

Weeks before the birthday message, they had been trading barbs over labeling themselves and Bebe Cool the Big Three.
