After being summoned to Kawempe police station, Pastor Bugingo told police that it was not a traditional marriage but rather he was invited as a guest at a family get together.
Pastor Kayiwa of Namirembe Christian Fellowship has also denied ever escorting Pastor Bugingo for a traditional ceremony.
Kayiwa says he attended a function he later realised was a get together family party and he attended on invitation from his fellow pastor, Bugingo. He also added that the main aim for his invitation was to lead them in prayers.
“I went there to pray. Everyone must be prayed for even if he/she is condemned to death. So, I went there to pray and bless the family of those who invited me. I never escorted anyone and I only went there to pray. The provided dress code was for free and I didn't want to be the odd man out.”Kayiwa said.
Kayiwa adds that the invitation from Makula’s family was for him to appear as a guest at a function that wasn’t an introduction.
Pastor Bugingo and his alleged wife, Susan Makula, were last week charged with three counts contrary to the Marriage Act by Entebbe Grade One Magistrate Stella Okwong Paculal and they are to appear before court on January 21, 2022.
