Byg Ben made these revelations on his official twitter account, and they have since been met with mixed reactions.
“If you are a music artiste in Kampala and you are not a Muganda. You will never make it. Period, there I said it,” his tweet read.
While responding to comments that flooded into his comments, Sukuya added that the agenda behind regional artistes is real.
“The agenda behind regional artistes is real. That’s all am saying. We in the same market, we are not competing and we definitely not the same, we are not competing and we definitely not the same. Why always be in fear when we are on the same table to eat cake,” he added.
In the tweets that follow up his initial tweet, Ben further notes that the music industry needs to be commercialized by doing different languages and promoting other regions.
His tweet was however met with extreme backlash by some artistes and industry players on a whole.
Popular tweep and entertainment journalist Gabriel Buule blamed Big Ben’s frustrations on doing the right music for the wrong audience.
“Let me help you Ben, I understand your frustrations but you have a few things to learn. You do good music for a wrong audience. The few good musicians in a genre similar to yours like GNL chose to tell stories instead of attempting to be like East Coast hip-hop artistes,” he tweeted.
Artiste Bruno K was baffled as he tasked Sukuya to explain why very many artistes hailing from different regions are attaining success.
Bruno K further added that Sukuya is creating nothing but excuses.
“Mpozi Apass muganda? Aziz Azion muganda? Lilliam Mbabazi muganda? Sheebah muganda? Juliana muganda? Maurice Kirya muganda? Bro stop giving excuses. People in Uganda will support you regardless of your tribe. Just give them good stuff,” Bruno tweeted.
However, according to Byg Ben artistes that are not from the region are operating under the whip of the master.
However, according to DJ Roja, Sukuya is coming up with excuses noting that it is the weakest excuse he has ever heard from a rapper.
Nevertheless, regardless of the backlash Sukuya faced, some section of entertainers resonated with his grievances.
According to popular internet comedian Outa Brian, he foresees the content sector facing similar challenges in the short run.
“The content- creators’ industry is also moving in that direction,” he responded to Sukuya’s tweet.
Byg Ben has made his mark on Rap music by releasing bangers such as “Ndolelele.”
