The Pearl of Africa Tourism Expo (POATE) 2025 is gearing up for a grand event from May 21st to 24th at the Speke Resort Munyonyo.
The annual trade fair, organised by Uganda's Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife, and Antiquities in collaboration with the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB), is expected to bring together key players in Uganda’s tourism sector, including international buyers, investors, media representatives, and tourism stakeholders.
A Vibrant Celebration of Uganda’s Culture
POATE 2025 will feature a range of exciting activities, with the grand finale on May 24th.
The festival will include performances from some of Africa’s biggest artists such as Blu 3, Ssuna Ben, Winnie Nwagi, Aliddeki Brian, and comedian Salvado, who will be joined by hosts Sheilla Gashumba and Sheilla Salta.
The event promises to highlight Uganda’s unique cultural offerings while showcasing its attractions to a global audience.
This year’s POATE also marks the participation of IGC, a pioneering fashion label led by Katende Godfrey. IGC has been appointed the official fashion curator for the expo, bringing a strong focus on sustainable fashion and Ugandan heritage.
Their showcase will feature a collection of ten original outfits that highlight the journey of Lubugo (barkcloth), from traditional material to modern fashion, marking a bold statement of cultural pride and sustainability.

Fashion as a Medium for Cultural Expression
IGC’s participation in the event will extend beyond a simple fashion display. During the opening ceremony on May 21st, IGC will present a dynamic runway performance and dance, followed by a fashion exhibition running from May 21st to 23rd.
This exhibition will provide a visual feast for attendees, reflecting Uganda’s evolving fashion scene while paying homage to the country’s rich cultural heritage.
On the final day, IGC will take their curation to the next level with the “Culture Corner,” which will feature a runway show showcasing IGC’s Evolution of Lubugo collection and collaborative pieces from local designers supported by the British Council.
This immersive experience will allow attendees to explore Uganda’s fashion, arts, and crafts in a unique and engaging way.
