President Yoweri Museveni held a productive meeting with Starlink representatives, Ben MacWilliams, Director of Starlink Market Access, and Brandi Oliver, Manager of Global Licensing and Market Activation.
The meeting, which took place at State House in Nakasero, was facilitated by Uganda's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Adonia Ayebare, and the U.S. Ambassador to Uganda, Ambassador William Popp.

In his statement on X, President Museveni expressed his appreciation for Starlink’s commitment to providing low-cost internet access to hard-to-reach areas in Uganda.
He welcomed the company’s plans to establish a presence in the country, stating, “They are welcome.”
Starlink, a subsidiary of SpaceX owned by Elon Musk, has recently applied to the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) for approval to operate in the country.

The company aims to provide high-speed internet through a constellation of low-earth orbit satellites, using small user-installed dishes.

Since its founding in 2020, Starlink has expanded its services to over 70 countries, including several African nations such as Nigeria, Rwanda, Kenya, Mozambique, Zambia, and Malawi.
