This Day is a reminder that women and girls play a critical role in science and technology communities and that their participation should be strengthened.
As part of the celebrations, beverages company Coca-Cola Beverages Uganda (CCBU) took the opportunity to honor the contributions of women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths (STEM).
Those honoured are the women participating in its Women in Leadership program.
Commenting on the program, Catherine Gita, CCBU People and Culture Director, highlighted its aim to support talented women in their journey to become leaders through training and support.
Gita emphasized the company’s commitment to recognizing the vital role women play in shaping the future of STEM and addressing gender imbalances through various initiatives.
“The Gender in Education Policy of 2018 aims to increase the participation of girls in science classes and enhance STEM education by training teachers,” she said.
“Our program aligns with this objective by striving to close the gender gap and boost female representation in leadership roles, particularly in STEM-related departments.”
The program spotlights exceptional women whose accomplishments exemplify excellence and resilience in STEM:
Doreen Namuyiga, a Quality Assurance Technologist at CCBU, ensures the company's products meet stringent standards. Namuyiga's passion for understanding the science behind food and beverage production drives her dedication to her role.
Barbra Namanyi, a Raw Materials Planner, manages procurement and inventory using data analytics and supply chain principles. Namanyi's journey in STEM began with a fascination for problem-solving, highlighting the diverse opportunities within these fields.
Anisha Namugabo, a Quality Controller, advocates for gender equality in STEM and mentors young girls to pursue their dreams. Namugabo envisions a future where every girl has equal opportunities in STEM and emphasizes the importance of female role models.
These women embody innovation, resilience, and empowerment in STEM, reflecting CCBU's commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion in the workforce.
