The former Ugandan rally champion was reportedly found dead in his bed at a family home in Buziga, a Kampala suburb.

He was the first Ugandan to win the Africa Rally Championship (ARC) in 1999.

Cause of Muhangi's death

The details of what might have caused the death of Muhangi are still scanty as police dispatches detectives.

His family has contacted a family doctor to carry out medical examinations together with medical officials from Uganda police.

Muhangi didn't have any known illness by the time of his death.

Authorities will follow the normal procedure of taking the body for a post-mortem

How he spent his last hours

Close friends told local media that the Muhangi returned home at around 1 am after meeting with friends.

They say the former rally ace was in a healthy mood and didn't seem to have an illness.

He was expected to meet a group of people on Thursday morning as earlier planned.

They were later informed that Muhangi had died in his sleep at his Buziga home.

Business wrangles

Muhangi's death comes after resolving a decade-long land wrangle with businessmen Drake Lubega and Yanga Matovu.

They were disputing over the ownership of Qualicel Bus Terminal located in downtown Kampala.
