Taxpayer expansion program committee meets to discuss resolutions

The meeting comprised participants from the Ministry of Finance, Uganda Registration Services Bureau, Kampala Capital City Authority, and the Ministry of Local Government.

During the engagement, the finance ministry permanent secretary Ramathan Ggoobi, who is also the Secretary to the Treasury -- appreciated the engagement as a great step towards revenue mobilisation.

“TREP’s primary role is to increase revenue collection to fully fund the country. I ask the team to take revenue mobilization as a critical mandate so that actionable steps can be taken for both tax and non-tax revenue to enhance revenue,” Ggoobi added.

Ggoobi also requested the team to take the tax register expansion role seriously. He recognized URA for the steps taken in revenue collection.

“I believe many of us are not giving it the attention it deserves. Let us combine efforts with URA to collect significant revenue that will support our country,” he emphasized.

Ggoobi challenged asked agencies that assess non-tax revenue to close the revenue leakages by harmonizing the systems and strengthening collaboration.

On the other hand, John R. Musinguzi, the Commissioner General of URA, added that the approval TREP charter and the business case, will help URA improve its day-to-day operations of TREP and ease compliance for taxpayers.
