Ssegirinya was flown out of the country and admitted to a foreign hospital after being reportedly diagnosed with medical complications in the lungs.

The legislator’s sickness has been a point of contention in the opposition, as National Unity Platform (NUP) party president Robert Kyagulanyi, aka Bobi Wine, accused Kampala Member of Parliament Muhammed Nsereko of casting Ssegirinya in a bad light.

Kyagulanyi, whose remarks made rounds on social media, said Nsereko was taking advantage of Ssegirinya’s illness to score political points and to make NUP look bad.

The Kampala MP, however, furiously denied these allegations and said he was only helping Ssegirinya, whom he considers a friend.

"Kyagulanyi should stop playing around with people’s minds. I am only helping Ssegirinya because he needs it, and I don’t look at whether he is in the same party as me or not. I have to first ask you to help me, and then we'll see what happens next," he said.

Nsereko also revealed that he has ever helped Kyagulanyi when his 12-acre piece of land had problems without considering what party he came from.

Last month, Ssegirinya expressed dissatisfaction over Parliament and his party (NUP) abandoning him as his hospital bill in Amsterdam skyrocketed.

This led to a fundraising campaign spearheaded by Nsereko, something that angered NUP and its leader.
