UPDF's spokesperson Brig. Richard Karemire says the shooter was arrested following the shooting spree.

An investigation into the "unclear incident" has been opened to understand why the officer shot his colleagues

Karemire has urged Christians to remain calm saying "the situation is now normal" ahead of the celebrations tomorrow.

He also refuted claims that five pilgrims were injured saying "it was only our officers".

Security personnel have been deployed in and outside Namugongo Martyr's Shrine where masses of believers are gathering to celebrate Martyr's Day.

Pilgrims celebrate Martyr's Day to remember a group of 23 Anglican and 22 Catholic converts who were executed between 31 January 1885 and 27 January 1887 on orders of Mwanga II, the Kabaka of Buganda.
