Museveni was sent by God to serve Ugandans, says Bishop
A Central Buganda Diocesan Bishop on Tuesday said President Kaguta Museveni was sent by God to serve Ugandans.
Bishop Micheal Lubowa made the comments during new year prayers as he warned Ugandans, especially the youth, against using social media to abuse and attack the president.
"Use Whatsapp and Facebook for development not to abuse him.
"…also stop attacking bishops like me who are supporting Mr President because he was sent by God to bless and serve our country," Daily Monitor quotes the bishop.
The bishop also urged Ugandans not to 'allow your hearts to move with jealousy, hatred, anger'.
Some religious leaders have been condemned by the public for keeping quiet against the president's actions affecting Ugandans.
"I'm not your servant"
Museveni, 74, has been under fire for the comments he made in 2017 during NRM Liberation Day celebrations.
He out-rightly said he is not anyone's servant or employee but rather a freedom fighter fighting for himself.
"I am not an employee. I hear some people saying that I am their servant; I am not a servant of anybody. I am a freedom fighter; that is why I do what I do. I don’t do it because I am your servant; I am not your servant. I am just a freedom fighter; I am fighting for myself, for my belief; that’s how I come in. If anybody thinks you gave me a job, he is deceiving himself. I am just a freedom fighter whom you thought could help you also."
Museveni is likely to extend his term in office if he runs in the next presidential election in 2021.
