Museveni to address nation tonight
This has been confirmed by the senior presidential press secretary, Sandor Walusimbi, who says the address is to be relayed from the president’s country home in Rwakitura.
The address is expected at 8pm and will be live on all TVs and radio stations across the country.
In his end-of-year speech on 31, December 2021, the President cautioned Ugandans especially the elderly to remain vigilant and be responsible for their lives as he announced the full reopening of the economy in January this year.
This year, the President vowed to focus on idlers (abakongozi) who look on as others are working.
His end of year address follows a series of events and shortcomings the country has faced throughout the year.
These include: The outbreak of the deadly Ebola disease in both Kassanda and Mubende districts, the attack on Uganda by the ADF militia, COVID-19 extension, the instability in eastern Congo and the country’s joining of the East African Community and Uganda’s oil exploration debate.
The President is also expected to give a projection of the incoming year – 2023. These may include: Uganda’s oil exploration, solving the unemployment challenge, dealing with corruption, merging of Government agencies among others.
It should be noted that despite the European Union (EU) calling out the Ugandan Government on respect of human rights when considering oil exploration, Museveni vowed to continue with the oil exploration process. The EU later gave it a go ahead.
