Museveni says the opposition is in danger of being wiped out as FDC snubs dialogue
Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), Ugandas biggest political party, on Wednesday, snubbed the first historic Interparty Organization for Dialogue (IPOD) summit.
Kaguta Museveni, Uganda's president since 1986, also the chairperson of the country's ruling party National Resistance Movement (NRM), reiterated that the opposition is in danger of being wiped out.
In 2015, the 74-year-old said his government would have 'completely wiped out opposition in the next five years'.
"The opposition is in danger of being whipped out because you miscalculate, you allow the NRM to be the one to solve the problems alone because you take the wrong position.
"You allow the NRM to answer all the problems of Uganda.
"In fact, the opposition is surviving partly because of the mistakes, weaknesses and failures of our leaders who don't implement things properly. If they did you would actually perish."
FDC last week officially communicated its withdrawal during the IPOD council meeting citing several reasons including the recent government ban blocking its rallies in the western part of the country.
IPOD was created in 2009 is composed of Secretary Generals of all political parties represented in parliament.
The summit's discussion will pivot on four areas; strengthening political parties, consolidation of constitutional and electoral reforms, promotion of inclusiveness in national politics and strengthening democratic governance, human rights and observance of rule of law.
