Museveni reveals one thing he doesn't do in politics

He spent almost 50 times more in election compared to Besigye

President Kaguta Museveni, 73, has made a rare revelation that he has never used money in politics and doesnt support it.

He urged the district leaders to avoid "unnecessary use of money in elective politics" saying it's not practical and sustainable.

In the last contentious presidential elections in 2016, it's reported that the 73-year-old president spent almost 50 times more in campaigns compare to his rival Dr. Kizza Besigye.

Museveni's ruling party is estimated to have spent a minimum of $231m (UGX773b) in the election, compared to FDC flag bearer Besigye who whose party spent $4.5m (UGX15b).

ACFIM, an organization that promotes transparency and accountability in financing electoral campaigns and political parties, reported that at least UGX857b was spent to run campaigns of the five presidential candidates.

President Museveni is accused by several opposition political parties of using money to 'buy and influence' people across the country.

In April, he donated UGX5bn in form of donated money, trucks, mini buses and an assortment of machinery worth to severl groups in Rukungiri District, just before the bi-election of the district's woman MP.
