Museveni flags off construction of UGX295bn Kampala flyover project
Uganda's President Kaguta Museveni has flagged off the construction of multi-billion Kampala flyover project.
The UGX295bn Kampala flyover will create an urban freeway passing through the city centre while mitigating traffic congestion once it's completed.
"With the help of Japan, we are now going to construct the flyover which will reduce traffic congestion. We shall also expand the road from Busega to Mpigi. It will be a flyover and the existing road will be expanded," Museveni said on Wednesday.
Funding
Kampala flyover project will be funded by the Ugandan government and Japan through Japanese Integration Corporation Agency (JICA).
JICA, through a 40-year loan with a 10 year grace period, will finance the cost of the construction, supervision consultants and associated price escalation and physical contingencies.
Ugandan government finances general administrative expenses, taxes, purchase of land and compensation.
The Japanese Ambassador to Uganda on Wednesday said they are committed to investing in high-quality infrastructure and connectivity.
The first phase of the 3KM project will start with road upgrading at Kafumbe Mukasa road.
