President Kaguta Museveni has spoken out for the first time on the reports linking him and his minister Sam Kuteesa to a $500,000 bribe from former Hong Kong politician Chi Ping Patrick Ho.

Patrick Ho was last week convicted of bribing African leaders to secure oil rights for a Chinese energy conglomerate.

He reportedly made a wire transfer of $500,000 to the Ugandan minister -- a transaction he said was documented as a charitable donation.

The Ugandan president has said his government is investigating Kuteesa following the allegations of receiving the thousands of dollars.

The 74-year-old revealed that his foreign affairs minister disclosed to him that the money was meant for a charity organization.

The president -- who spoke during the launch of the State House anti-corruption unit on Tuesday -- said the former UN assembly president 'would be answerable'.

"If it was for charity, was it delivered to the charity organisation? We are going to find out".

Patrick Ho, who was also found guilty of bribing the president of Chad with $2m secreted in gift boxes, will be sentenced in March 2019.
