Money for bus accident victims as president declares national mourning

The government has declared three days of national mourning after 22 passengers perished in a road accident in Kiryandongo District on Friday 25th.

The president, through the Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda, has issued a directive declaring three days of national mourning starting Sunday 27th.

All flags on public buildings will fly at half mast to honour the 22 persons who died, according to the statement issued by the Prime Minister.

Government will also contribute UGX5m for burial arrangements to each of the families that lost their loved ones -- UGX3m will also be given to each person who was severely injured.

Rugunda has appealed to "drive carefully and be disciplined on the roads" after preliminary reports revealed that "speeding and faulty mechanical conditions" were the cause of the accident.

A UPDF helicopter has also be made available to help in airlifting victims who need specialised treatment. the statement further reveals.
