Kisoro Industrial Park on track - UIA boss
The UIA received 620 acres of land in Kibaya, Bunagana and Rukundo Town councils from the Kisoro district leaders for the industrial park on August 18th, 2021.
Mukiza made the revelation while speaking as chief guest at the 2023 Isangane Festival, a yearly event that celebrates the culture and heritage of Bafumbira in the gardens of the Kisoro Mayor.
He thanked the district leaders for providing the land and also revealed UIA has a land title, started a feasibility study, and set the boundaries of the land.
“The next thing is to talk about how to pay for the building of the park. We are determined to make the industrial park happen for Kisoro as a way of supporting H.E President Museveni’s vision for the region’s economic growth,” he said.
The Isangane Festival is organized by the Ubuntu Bafumbira United Association (UBUA).
It aims to help Maternal Health Care in the hard-to-reach Health Centre III in Kisoro district. Mukiza praised the Ubuntu leaders for bringing Bafumbira together from all over the world and making them feel proud of who they are and where they come from. He said that unity is important for development.
About the national industrial plan, President Yoweri Museveni agreed to set up 25 industrial parks in all sub-regions in the country in May 2021.
These parks are part of the government’s plan to boost industrialization.
In the last six years, at least 15 industrial parks have been set up, including ones in Mbale, Kapeeka, Buikwe, Njeru, Namanve, Jinja, Soroti, Kampala Industrial and Business Park, Luzira Industrial and Business Park, and Bweyogerere Industrial Estate.
The government gave 130 Billion Shillings in October 2019 to help set up 20 zonal industrial parks in the country.
