King Michael postpones show over “Gov’t involvement” in Sheebah, Cindy battle
Michael announced yesterday, Monday that he was changing the show date and venue to September 17, at Lido Beach in Entebbe.
Born Michael Mugwanya, the artist has been dismayed over the past few weeks after his concert date was “hijacked” by musicians Sheebah Karungi and Cindy Sanyu.
The two top female singers have a battle concert set for September 15, at Kololo Independence Grounds.
Explaining the postponement, Michael said he was intent on sticking to September 15, but later on, became fearful when he learned of the “forces behind” the Kololo battle.
Michael claims he was informed that a powerful person from the State House was behind the Sheebah-Karungi battle.
The battle concert coincides with President Yoweri Museveni’s 79th birthday.
Over the past week, there have been reports of a big bash planned by the “bazzukulu” to celebrate the president’s anniversary in Kampala.
“When I heard that the government was involved, I got scared and pulled out,” said Michael on Tuesday morning.
“I decided to change so I don’t have to pull the rope with powerful people. When I learned about this, I realized that this was more than a music battle, and I had to let go.”
Michael also says he recently saw a letter written by the management of Lugogo Cricket Oval, indicating that his concert was not to be held there.
Surprisingly, he says, this letter was written back in February this year.
Luckily, the singer says, the Cricket Oval management has refunded his down payment for the venue.
Yet still, he says, he’s lost over Shs 160million in preparation for the Logogo concert, and two others in Entebbe and Luwero.
Currently, only the Entebbe show has been confirmed, as the one in Luwero has also been postponed.
