Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC) has raised concern over the continued detention of ailing MP Betty Nambooze.
Nambooze was arrested last week by officials from the police over offences of inciting violence and offensive communication.
In a statement seen by Pulse Live Uganda, the commission says "if anything happens to Hon. Nambooze as a result of delay in her medical treatment, it would raise legitimate questions".
UHRC adds that the "consequences will be grave to the embarrassment of the Uganda Police Force".
Nambooze developed some health complications days after her arrest and she is receiving treatment at Kiruddu Hospital in Makindye Division.
The commission wants the Inspector General of Police to temporarily release the detained Member of Parliament so that she can travel to India for specialised treatment.
It also states that Nambooze's current health condition can't allow her to "effectively defend herself against the charges against her"
Meanwhile, the office of Director of Public Prosecution on Friday sanctioned charges against her.
