Govt confirms 1 death after Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever outbreak

Ministry of Health (MoH) has confirmed a positive case of Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) in Mubende District after the death of a 35-year-old man.

His family, including wife and 4 others are quarantined and being closely monitored, according to statement from the ministry.

A team from World Health Organisation in Uganda and MoH has been dispatched to Mubende to collect more information and assist in mounting appropriate response.

CCHF virus is transmitted to people either by tick bites or through contact with infected animal blood or tissues during and immediately after slaughter.

State Minister of Health for General Duties Sarah Opendi also revealed that there is no Ebola cases in the country despite outbreak in the neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo.
