These are not national matters; the party is not even moved after all. Most parties have always snatched members from other parties,” the party spokesperson, Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, said as he brushed off reports that some of the party members had moved to NUP.

At least forty-six FDC party members led by the National Executive Committee member, Habib Buwembo, crossed to NUP. The new members were warmly welcomed by NUP leaders at their party headquarters in Kamwokya.

Buwemobo, who is a former Rubaga South parliamentary aspirant, had resigned from the National Executive Committee about a fortnight ago.

When I chose to leave FDC, I wrote a resignation letter on January 12 2022 and handed it over to FDC at the party headquarters in Najjanakumbi although some people had interpreted my resignation differently,” he told this reporter.

Ssemujju however reiterated that the party remains strong despite some members leaving.

Other members that crossed to NUP include: Peter Kaaso, Josephine Nandawula, Rashid Kasujja, Asadu Ssemakula, Kawooya Kajambiya, Peace Kasozi, Jackson Kizza, Mahad Buwembo, Hassan Sengendo, Walid Matovu, Peter Ssentogo, Edris Kasujja, Robert Sserunjogi, Rashid Sserunjogi, Richard Sempuuya, Tanis Batamuliza, Umar Ssetuba, Sulaiman Kasule among others.

Meanwhile, FDC is also concerned about the increasing debt burden. Ssemujju said that the money that was borrowed from foreign finance institutions was not put to good use yet Ugandans are already paying for it.
