Authorities in Mbale say the victims, mostly children, have been admitted for specialised treatment and isolation wards have been set up in Namatala health center IV.
Health officials in the district have attributed the outbreak of the bacterial disease to heavy rains which have washed away latrines and other sanitation facilities.
A team of experts has been constituted to carry out sensitization on hygiene and sanitation as government finds lasting solutions to contain the outbreak.
