The retired Assistant Bishop of the Diocese of Kampala has weighed in on President Kaguta Museveni's address against corruption -- a week after launching the State House anti-corruption unit.
Dr David Zac Niringiye on Monday said the 'thieves in leadership' positions are appointed by the president despite his call to end corruption in the country.
The civic-political activist, during a televised interview on NBS TV, accused Museveni, 74, of using corruption to retain political power.
"Every problem that comes up, Gen. Museveni throws UPDF soldiers around. All this is corruption and abuse of power. Militarism is part of the corruption scandal.
"Museveni has a credibility crisis. 35 years and the government has become more corrupt. Corruption is the way he retains political power."
Museveni, Uganda's president since 1986, launched another anti-corruption unit in the country amid reports pinning him and his Foreign Affairs Minister Sam Kuteesa for receiving a $500,000 bribe from the jailed Hong Kong politician Patrick Ho Chi-ping.
Removing Museveni from power
The outspoken cleric reemphasized his call to remove Museveni from power as he eyes next presidential elections to extend his rule.
"Let us work hard as a country and peacefully remove president Museveni and his leadership from power."
Niringiye has previously blamed the president of using and influencing religious leaders through church gifts.
He also described the recently held first ever inter-political party dialogue as just a 'meeting between four people'.
