Murder caused by domestic violence on the rise, says Police

The number of murder cases due to domestic violence is on the rise, the Police have revealed in a statement issued on their website on Tuesday, October 3, 2023.

We continue to register murders arising out of domestic violence, where spouses and other vulnerable family members are victims,” the statement read.

The statement comes against the backdrop of an incident registered by the territorial police in Rwizi Region and Kiruhura in which murder by stabbing of a husband and subsequent suicide happened.

According to the Police, the facts gathered indicate that on Thursday, September 28, 2023, at around 1PM., at Kamuzinzi cell, Kashongi subcounty, Akampaobusingye Allen, a 19-year-old housewife, picked up a knife and stabbed her husband, Akatwijuka Innocent, aged 26, to death due to infidelity and child neglect of the 2-year-old.

In Greater Bushenyi and Buhweju, one Kakuru innocent was arrested for the alleged murder by hacking of his biological mother, Kantayomba Faridah, aged 68, on that same day, at Ekinoni village, Rugongo parish in Buhweju district. The victim had deep cuts on the head.

Again, the Police in Katonga and Kanoni Gomba have in custody one Ssenyonjo Leonard, a 24-year-old peasant of Matongo village, Kabulasoke, for the alleged murder by beating of his wife Allen Ssenyonjo on Monday, September 25, 2023, at around 6 p.m. in the garden. According to the police, the victim fell unconscious and was transferred home, where her condition worsened and she died.

The Police in Busoga North and Buyende have in custody one Tigawalana Yoweri, of Bubiro village, Nabitula parish, for the alleged murder of his stepson, Bakaswirewa Aniyani, aged one and a half years. The suspect was found when his wife had taken the child to the nearest clinic for treatment and started assaulting her and her child on Friday, September 29, 2023, at around 7PM. The victim succumbed to the injuries.
