Although men may seem crazy in love, there's nothing crazy about what makes them that way. It has nothing to do with being under supernatural spells. It also makes one wonder what 'real love' looks like if true love is suspected of foul play. Is real love hard? or bad? painful? disrespectful? stingy?

Such questions arise as in the case of Susan Makula, partner of city pastor Aloysius Bugingo, who has been accused of bewitching the pastor to win his affection.

The tough pastor has been seen getting food for himself and Makula at an event while Makula remained "seated and relaxed like a boss."

Here are some things that make men lovebirds.

Once a man commits to love a woman, what stops him from pouring all his love out for her? It can be seen as dangerous to let one's guard down when in love because it exposes one to the risk of being hurt. However, when he commits to love, it is not childish or blind, it is from a place of security in himself, willing to be vulnerable, and to have a life partner.

"People who don’t understand the language of love, and if you had ever performed witchcraft and got results, you'll think such experiences are a result of witchcraft. It's not witchcraft, my friend. It's love," said Makula.

Having a life purpose or vision and living it can have a positive impact on a man's sense of self and his relationship with the world around him. It provides him with security and boosts his capacity to enjoy his life. In such a positive state of being and status in society, it can relax him to let his romantic side out.

A lot of effort and communication goes on behind closed doors which makes healthy relationships. Each person's needs in a relationship are different and only that partner who supports them and nourishes them can bring out the best in the partner. When his needs are met by a partner with similar values, he will reciprocate the love.

The other side of the coin is what the woman does which might make her seem bewitched but is generally seen as normal and even expected. That is the energy he responds to.

"That's love. It's not witchcraft. A man who loves you and understands you... he saw that I was wearing Musanana [a traditional dress that encompasses a floor-length skirt with a sash swathed over one shoulder, worn over a tank top or bustier], so it would be hard for me to carry food. But he was wearing a suit, so he could lift the food tray,” Makula said.

Couples that go through tough times and conflict and make it through together share a deeper bond that can increase trust. With emotional rewards like increased trust and understanding, partners can start to share more of themselves with a partner. Loyalty is important to men and getting it through tough times can make them more open to being affectionate.

At some point, each person comes to realise who they are and what they want. At certain ages, men decide to show their romantic side more and better. This doesn't mean that younger people don't do the same, and sometimes maturity has nothing to do with age, but time has a way of making us choose better what matters and what doesn't. Experience can also make a man more mature in his love life.
