5 hacks for when there's no interesting TV show to watch
Choosing a movie or series can be harder than what such a minor activity should be. Use these tips to quickly find something to watch or binge.
We want to be able to choose but it gets increasingly harder from disappointment in the past from acclaimed shows and movies, to comparison with tried and true shows (which we are bored with or taking a break from).
According to researchers in the field of choice, Barry Schwartz and Sheena Iyengar, we experience choice overload in such moments. It relates to dating sites/apps, shopping apps/sites, among others.
We become less confident in our choice, less energised for an evening of binge-ing with each page we scroll and eventually we fear picking the wrong (not liking) show or series.
So how can you land a hot show or serie in ample time.
1. Do a little research
Read up on the show/series you are watching or interested in. Sometimes you might give a show a try but soon find that it is settling in the "same old" routine.
Instead of discarding it, do a little research about the characters, culture, language or history. This will give it more depth and you will have a background for more understanding.
2. Watch shows/series from different continents
If you are used to American entertainment, it can grow old and formulaic making it predictable. Look out for shows/series from Europe and other parts of the world to get a fresh view.
3. Understand your age preferences
Sometimes you want new forms or media of entertainment different from what you are used to. Chances are you have outgrown certain entertainment. You might also want to try something completely different to your favourite old shows/series.
A dull palate will need, either a completely new genre or spicing it up with other recreational activities.
Make it part of a personal routine. You might be in a better state to find something or enjoy it if you couple it with other recreational activities. Pour yourself some tea, wine, popcorn, ask on social media, among others.
4. Look for other media
There's no denying that creativity in the film industry has taken a backseat for shock effect and other purposes.
However, there are other platforms that offer pure entertainment because creativity is still valuable. YouTube, TikTok, Twitch, short films, podcasts, among others.
5. Do something else
Give your mind new sensory stimuli outside your devices. Go for real life entertainment and adventure because your brain might be shutting down from the monotony.
Find more engaging activities outside your house, meet people, go places and wake up that dulled part of your self.
