Clever J revealed in an interview yesterday that he was warned by his uncle Gerald Mayanja (Humphrey’s father) not to ever involve himself with the their family again.
“Around the time I did my concert, Mzee Mayanja told me that they wanted nothing to do with me and that I should never get involved with their family ever again,” he said.
“I therefore had nowhere to begin. I couldn't take myself to a place they told me not to go.”
For years now, Clever J, real name Gerald Muwonge, and the Mayanja family do not see eye to eye.
During his last concert in August last year, Clever J threatened to have any of the Mayanja singing brothers Jose Chameleone, Pallaso and Weasel arrested if they showed up at his show.
However, after the concert, he says he reached out to Mzee Mayanja to try and make amends with the family but he was told to leave them alone.
“He didn’t even give me a chance to make my point,” he said.
Clever J says, however, that he sent his father John to deliver a message and some money to Humphrey Mayanja when he learned of his illness.
He also says his dad attended the funeral on Wednesday in Mityana.
