The 52-year-old succumbed to stomach cancer on Saturday, March 30th.

In all the years I have been on this earth, I have never seen someone go through so much pain in sickness,” Gerald recounted.

He got to a point where even moving his arm was so painful it felt like they were cutting it off.”

Gerald narrated that two days before his death, his son told him he had given up on life.

He told me, ‘Dad and Mom, I have had enough with life, I am done with the world,’” Mayanja said.

Days earlier, the doctors declined to perform another surgery on him due to his weakness and blood loss and instead advised the family to take him home to spend his last days with them.

Prossy Mayanja, Humphrey’s mother said she too had reached a point where she couldn't stand seeing her son in such pain, and that she prayed to God to take his life.

Bills

Meanwhile, Gerald thanked Humprey's friends for standing with the family financially up to the end.

He said the friends of the deceased had cleared over 95% of the medical bills.

The very first time we took him for surgery, the bill was Shs 10million. I called one of his friends and they paid all of it,” Gerald recalled.

Other friends also chimed in to help with food items and other needs throughout the treatment.

Even after his death last week, Gerald said friends of Humphrey, from Uganda and abroad have taken over almost all the funeral expenses including the funeral service package, as well as food to be served at their home in Kampala and in the village where burial will take place.

Humphrey Mayanja will be laid to rest on Wednesday, April 4in Kalangalo, Singo.
